Sure, I've tweaked out the specs on this machine (16GB RAM + 256 GB SSD), but that's just another great feature exclusive to older MB's (being able to upgrade internals). So far this machine has been able to handle everything my course work has thrown at me and then some.

I'm currently a student triple majoring in Applied Mathematics, Cybersecurity, and Computer Science so modeling and software development is my life. As a 2012 MB Pro Retina owner, I can easily debunk all of the above claims. Seriously? I feel like there's a strange sense of elitism within the community revolving around owning the newest product and blinding proclaiming that any product not made within the last 12 months is automatically obsolete and inferior. "Spec-wise that machine is an obsolete relic compared to the new 2016/2017 models"

"I mean it'll be 'okay' if all you're planning on doing is browsing and small productivity"

"if they're asking more than $50-100, I wouldn't do it" If you can't move on, you'll get left behind.Recently I've seen a lot of posts on various forms (not just Reddit) asking "Is the 2012 MacBook Pro worth buying in 2018/for college/for software development," and I'm honestly shocked at some of the feedback/answers that our community is giving. Performance especially on the new ones are fantastic. Matte screen is hard to find on any laptop. There's nothing wrong with them operationally. The new boards need some better control, but they feel fantastic to type on. It's still not going to be radically different. Keyboard, you have slightly more of a point on. I'm sorry your 15 year old game controller doesn't work without a cheap, passive adapter. They have every modern connection with an adapter. I'm so freak'n tired of people whining about it - they're what is here now. Unless it has PROPER ports (and multiple ports at that), a keyboard that doesn’t need a condom to work properly, a matte screen, proper heat thermals & actual function keys then they can call it whatever they want to but it certainly won’t be a pro machine or anything close to what true pros want or need.It will have proper ports- USB-C Thunderbolt 3 ports. The MacBook Pro last saw a redesign only two and half years ago. Close followers of Apple's MacBook Pro refresh cycle have been expecting Apple to continue with the current design until at least 2020. Unfortunately the report provides few details beyond that it is an "all-new" design, suggesting Apple is revamping their current MacBook Pro design.Ī 16"-16.5" screen would be the largest screen Apple has provided on a MacBook Pro since the discontinuation of the 17" MacBook Pro in 2012.

MacRumors has obtained a copy of the report and perhaps the most exciting prediction for Mac users is the revelation that Apple is working on a 16"-16.5" MacBook Pro. Tonight, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo released a research note looking at Apple's releases in 2019.

Apple will release a new MacBook Pro with a 16-inch to 16.5-inch display and an all-new design in 2019, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
